Framed Mirabilia project
I finally got the time and energy to frame “Lilac”, one of
Mirabilia’s Pixie Couture Collection. I love the result. I think she is really
beautiful. I purchased the frame from Hobby Lobby, and this is the same frame I
used for “Holly”. Lilac was a quick stitch. It just took me about two months.
Sometimes, I stitch other projects in between and got busy with school work,
but she was my main focus. I finished her last May of 2014 and waited until
last night to get her framed.
I enjoyed stitching her with all those pretty beads and the
colorful threads. I used antique white evenweave fabric for her and Holly. And,
I will use the same fabric and frame for the rest of the Pixie Couture that I
have in my stash. The next pixie has been kitted for another start. Here’s a
picture of both Holly and Lilac. I don’t know yet where I will put them in my house
but I will definitely move other framed finishes to showcase them.
DIY framing really saves me $100 or more. I did the lacing
technique to stretch it nicely and instead of using pins, I used small paper
clips to hold the fabric taut to the acid free mounting board while lacing it.
Since I did not use a mat for this project, I used a clear spacer to keep the
glass from touching the fabric and beads.
My Lavender and Lace Santa “Gift of Peace” is still in the
framer (Michael,s Arts and Crafts – got a great deal) and I have to take a
special trip to Howard’s Arts in Hagerstown, MD to buy a clear spacer for my
Joan Elliot’s Poppy Fairy. Lilac used up the entire long strip. It will costs
me more than $7.00 for a long strip of clear spacer but it is important to have
especially in framing projects with beads. I will post them once I get the
framing done. J
Happy Stitching, everyone!
